To Whom It May Concern,
I am writing in support of ZionSphere and the Open Doors Program as they apply for funding through Lilly Endowment's Exploring Christian Practices Initiative.
My name is Beverly Roberson, and I am a Registered Nurse with an Associate's degree in Biblical Studies. Through both healthcare and faith-based environments, I have seen firsthand how deeply people—especially young people—need spaces where they feel emotionally safe, spiritually seen, and meaningfully connected to others. I believe ZionSphere represents an innovative and thoughtful attempt to create those kinds of spaces.
What stands out to me most about ZionSphere is not simply the use of virtual reality technology, but the intentional focus on guided reflection, community discussion, and Scripture-centered engagement. In healthcare, we understand that people often process experiences more deeply when they are emotionally engaged and given supportive environments to reflect on what they have encountered. ZionSphere's facilitated debrief model reflects that same understanding by creating opportunities for participants to discuss, process, and connect biblical narratives to their own lives in community with others.
I am also encouraged by the project's focus on underserved youth and nontraditional ministry settings. Many young people today struggle to engage through traditional formats alone, yet still carry profound spiritual questions and a desire for belonging and meaning. ZionSphere's approach appears especially thoughtful in its effort to meet young people where they are while remaining grounded in Scripture and communal faith formation.
As someone with both healthcare and biblical studies experience, I appreciate the project's holistic approach to spiritual engagement—one that recognizes the importance of emotional resonance, reflection, community support, and accessible pathways into meaningful conversations about faith.
I believe ZionSphere and the Open Doors Program align strongly with the goals of the Exploring Christian Practices Initiative by seeking to adapt and deploy Christian practices of Scriptural reflection, communal engagement, and spiritual formation in ways that are accessible and relevant for today's generation.
Sincerely,
Beverly Roberson
